CEO Choice Award

Minds, behind by Liam G

‘This painting is meant to be a tribute to the unhealthy aspects of nostalgia, and how your subconscious mind, can make you want something you, yourself do not want, This painting is an abstract interpretation of my ex-boyfriend, melting, with scars ripping open, showing that these scars extend beyond just some paint on a canvas. I painted him cause my brain caves for a time when things were simple and predictable, a time that felt like love even though it wasn’t, it was compliance. Memories and feelings are not reliable and feelings around memories can be even less reliable, this extends to nostalgia. In this painting I drew the model melting in a post-impressionistic approach to show the mental distortion, that goes along with these concepts. Your brain can’t show your objective reality, its interpretation is no different from painting on a canvas. Nostalgia shows you an unreliable view of the past, and at times can impact your function in the present, and that is what I’ve tried to capture.’

2022 Art Workshops

Kiarra Jezek (Regional Manager) and Alison Thomsitt (Indie School Wodonga Teacher) worked together to create and trial art workshops for the 2022 Indie Art Show, workshops were trialled over two locations this year (Lavington and Wangaratta). The workshops offered an introduction to street art and an exclusive chance to learn a variety of spray-painting techniques used by renowned street artist Brad Eastman, the workshops were delivered by Indie School Wodonga’s Art Teacher Alison Thomsitt.

Learners had a fun and interactive experience

After a rundown on aspects of street art and a few practice activities, learners were given the opportunity to experiment with different techniques in a dedicated spray painting space, they then went back to the classroom for a short design session using masking tape to create a design. Once learners were armed with their design, they then created their final masterpiece outside.
